Shipwreck Whale #3444
Shipwreck Whale #3444
Super cute little whale, but there is more! This bit of driftwood I found came from a shipwreck from @ 1900. According to one of the experts I spoke with, they were able to determine the type of boat this shipwreck timber came from (Coastal Fishing Vessel - less than 100' LOA) from it's dimensions, and the wooden pegs / bung holes - it was obvious to them. Additionally, for oak to turn black like this even in the center of the timber it must have been under water for at least 100 years. It was likely buried in the mud for decades. Then a storm dug it up, and tossed it on the beach where I found it. It is likely that this old shipwreck timber now whale was a living tree in the 1700's. It is 14” long and 5” wide. Signed, dated, hardware ready to hang.
